Detect if a driver is ready to take over the steering control and enable Level-2 and Level-3 autonomous driving, without the need for additional sensors in the steering wheel.

Unlike traditional methods of hands-on-wheel detection, such as capacitive steering wheels or torque sensors, Neonode’s driver monitoring software can utilize existing in-cabin cameras to detect if a driver has their hands in the correct position and does not require the driver to actively steer the wheel to activate the detection.

Our GSR-compliant solution can be configured to accept certain wheel grips, has a very small computational footprint and is even suitable as an OTA software add-on for existing driver monitoring systems.

When automatically commanded steering systems are active and in the speed range between 10 km/h or Vsmin (whichever is higher) and Vsmax, it shall provide a means of detecting if the driver is holding the steering control.	Neonode's Driver Monitoring System can detect when users are actively gripping the wheel, opposed to simply touching it.
IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is an independent, nonprofit scientific and educational organization dedicated to reducing road fatalities.	Partially automated vehicles need to ensure that the driver's eyes are directed at the road and their hands are either on the steering wheel or ready to grab it.	Neonode's Driver Monitoring System can monitor eye gaze, driver intent and steering wheel grip simultaneously using just one camera.
Euro NCAP is the European New Car Assessment Program which aims to make cars safer. It created a point-based safety rating (5-star) to help consumers chose the safest vehicles for their needs.	Points are granted for robust sensing of hands-on-steering wheel detection.	10 Euro NCAP points are available with Neonode's DMS steering wheel detection. Our system is hard to trick and works even with humidity, gloves and dry hands.
